Problem: |
rcphost not allowed You are trying to relay mail through a server which is not an open relay and the destination mailbox does not reside on that server. |
Solution: |
authenticate or use trusted mail source 1) use the webmail for your domain 2) servers on the relationalhost network are automatically trusted for hosted websites 3) use smtp (port 587 preferred over 25 so silent proxy issues are bypassed), and enable smtp-auth however its done in your mail client with the same credentials as your pop account. 3a) if the from/sender address is really a forward, select to use a login you specify instead and specify a real account on the same domain. if your mail client does not support 3 or 3a either use webmail, or upgrade your mail client, only very old clients don't support these features. |
Problem: |
Mail rejected by relationalhost.com servers with SPF url in the bounce |
Solution: |
Actually look at the spf url in the bounce - details of the solution are there. This must be fixed by the sender since their configuration looks like a forged source mail which is automatically rejected during connection to our server at the envelope level before content is ever transferred. |
Problem: |
Mailboxes between mail client and webmail do not match up |
Solution: |
Webmail is just an imap client with a web interface, the mail client software needs to be configured as an imap client and then all the spam related folders, trash, and any other user defined folders will all sync up between any imap clients connecting to the account. The most common issue is the account is setup as POP3, not IMAP4 which will work but once the mail is popped off the server its not available for imap access any longer. |
Problem: |
Account says username or password not recognized in webmail or mail client |
Solution: |
Usernames are the full email address including the domain. verify you have case, and L vs I, Zero vs Oh, etc., all correct. |
Problem: |
Bounced email says recipient mailbox full |
Solution: |
Delete some of your older messages (check folders like spam, trash etc., since they count in the total). Another option is ask for your mailbox size to be increased. |
Problem: |
Missing messages coming to you |
Solution: |
Ensure they are actually missing first - we are all spoiled by the near instant email delivery which takes place 99% of the time. However there are still instances where email is cached and delivered later and is not lost at all. First make sure this is not the case by waiting at least 2hrs. Another possible problem is a full mailbox (see above). Another possible problem is they were automatically filtered by spam filtering or your own user defined filters into another folder |
Problem: |
My mailbox reports I am over quota but I have no mail stored on the server. |
Solution: |
You are most likely using POP for mail retrieval. Pop is an old protocol that does not support separate server based mail boxes. Our mail filtering sends certain types of spam to a mailbox called "Spam" automatically and POP has no way to see this, so mail builds up and uses up your quota. There are 2 different ways to address this |
